"Safe, Sane and NON-Consensual" Presentation, Wednesday, July 24th

UPDATE: The audio is here, for your enjoyment. Images of the written lists that Liat made can be found here, here, here and here.

The "Safe, Sane and NON-Consensual" presentation will occur at 7PM on Wednesday, July 24th. This event is strongly recommended - there will be some amazing stories.  Better to be forewarned!

Topics:

• What is sexual assault, who can be a victim/survivor, who can be a perpetrator?

• What is consent – especially as it relates to leather/BDSM, legally, and more broadly?

• Signs that someone is no longer consenting

• When and how does play and sex become non-consensual?

• How do you make sure that you don’t cross negotiated boundaries, watch for un-negotiated limits, and maintain SSC play at all times?

• Issues that come up with law enforcement and prosecution of sexual assault cases that involve BDSM

About the Stonewall Citizen's Patrol

The Stonewall Citizens' Patrol is a volunteer neighborhood watch patrol group operating in the highly diverse Hillcrest, North Park and University Heights areas of San Diego. Over 30 volunteers receive training from the San Diego Police Department and take turns patrolling the streets.
In addition to patrolling, the organization focuses on crime awareness and crime prevention which includes distributing safety whistles, crime prevention posters, and safety tip cards.
Our volunteers conduct themselves with a "hands-off" approach and do not carry weapons. We are merely additional “eyes and ears” for the San Diego Police Department.
We have three objectives:
  • Awareness – increase awareness of street crime within the area
  • Educate – Provide safety and crime prevention education
  • Patrol – Help police fight crime by serving as extra eyes and ears.
And a little about Gabriel:

I've been a volunteer with Stonewall for about 3 years. Along with weekend patrols, I've also participated in helping out with various groups in maintaining safety as they've marched in demonstration or in protest, i.e. the San Diego Remembers march, the Transgender Day of Remembrance march, etc. I've also helped out with safety and security at SD Pride for the past three years, this year more so, as Stonewall partnered with Pride for safety.

As well as Stonewall Citizen's Patrol, I've facilitated several discussion groups at the Center and the HYC, and am currently facilitating the Transgender Coming Out group. I am a trans man and have lived in San Diego for 6 years now.
